Privacy Policy
1. About this policy
This privacy policy applies to OwlSpend, an expense
tracking app for Android (package name com.owlspend.app),
published by the developer identified on the app's Google Play listing
(“we”, “us”). It applies to all users worldwide,
wherever you live. If you have questions about it, see the Contact
section at the end.
2. Data we collect: none
- No account or sign-up is required to use OwlSpend.
- No analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting services are included in the app.
- We operate no servers. The app never transmits your transactions, categories, notes, or settings to us — we have no way to receive them, and we never see your financial information.
- We do not collect, store, sell, or share any personal data, and we do not use your data for advertising or profiling of any kind.
3. Information you store in the app
The transactions, categories, accounts, notes, and settings you enter are saved in a private database on your device. This database is accessible only to OwlSpend, under the protection of Android's standard app sandboxing. It never leaves your device except through the backups and exports described below — all of which you initiate and control.
4. When OwlSpend uses the internet
All expense tracking works fully offline. The app uses its internet access only for the two optional features below, and for nothing else. No data is transmitted in the background beyond what these features require.
- Premium purchase (Google Play billing): if you choose to buy Premium, the payment is handled entirely by Google Play, on Google's own screens, under Google's privacy policy. We never receive your name, address, card number, or any other payment details. The app only learns whether the purchase succeeded, so it can unlock Premium features on your device.
-
Cloud backup to your own Google Drive (optional, Premium):
if you enable this feature, you sign in with your Google account on
Google's own sign-in screen. OwlSpend requests only the narrow
“app data folder” permission
(
drive.appdata), which lets it read and write its own hidden backup folder in your Google Drive — nothing else in your Drive. Backup files travel directly and encrypted in transit from your device to your Google Drive; they are never routed through us, and we cannot access them. Your Google account name and email address are used only on your device, to show which account is connected. You can disconnect at any time in the app, and you can revoke OwlSpend's access or delete its hidden app data in your Google account settings (Drive → Settings → Manage apps).
5. Backups you control
- Android device backup: if device backup is enabled in your Android settings, Android may include OwlSpend's data in your device's backup (for example, to your Google account). This backup is created, encrypted, and managed by Android/Google under Google's own terms and privacy policy — we have no access to it. You can turn it off in your device's backup settings.
- Folder backups: you can choose a folder — on your device, an SD card, or a cloud storage folder (such as Google Drive or OneDrive) — where OwlSpend saves backup files. These files are created only in the folder you picked and remain fully under your control. If you pick a folder that syncs with a cloud provider, that provider's privacy policy governs the files stored with them.
- CSV export: exports are created only when you choose to export, saved to a location you pick, and are entirely yours to manage.
6. App permissions
-
Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — used solely to warn you if a scheduled backup stops working. You can decline or revoke it at any time; the app works fully without it. -
Internet and network state (
INTERNET,ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) — used only for the two optional features described in section 4: Google Play billing and the optional Google Drive backup. If you use neither, the app sends nothing over the network.
7. App lock and biometrics
OwlSpend offers an optional app lock that uses your device's built-in screen lock and biometric system (fingerprint or face unlock). Authentication is performed entirely by Android on your device. The app only learns whether unlocking succeeded — it never sees, stores, or transmits your biometric data or screen-lock credentials.
8. Third parties
OwlSpend contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking components. The only third party involved is Google — for Google Play billing if you buy Premium, and for Google Sign-In and Google Drive if you enable the optional cloud backup — acting under Google's privacy policy. We share no data with anyone; there is nothing to share. If a future version ever adds any other component, this policy will be updated before that version is released (see section 12).
9. Data retention and deletion
- Your data stays on your device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes the app's local database.
- Backup files you created remain in the folder you chose until you delete them yourself.
- Cloud backups live in the hidden app data folder of your own Google Drive. You can delete them from within the app, or remove all of OwlSpend's hidden app data in Google Drive → Settings → Manage apps.
- Android device backups are managed through your device's Google backup settings.
- We retain nothing, because we receive nothing.
10. Your privacy rights, worldwide
Privacy laws around the world — such as the GDPR in the European Union and the United Kingdom, the CCPA/CPRA in California, the LGPD in Brazil, and the DPDP Act in India — give you rights over personal data that an organisation holds about you, including the rights to access, correct, export, and delete it, and to object to or restrict its processing.
- Because we do not collect or hold any personal data about you, there is nothing on our side to access, export, correct, or delete — your records exist only on your device and in backups you control.
- You can exercise full control directly: view and edit everything in the app, delete data in the app, delete your backup files, and uninstall the app.
- We do not sell or share personal information (as those terms are defined in the CCPA/CPRA), and we do not process personal data for targeted advertising or profiling.
- For anything handled by Google (payments, your Google account, Google Drive), you can exercise your rights through your Google account.
- You may contact us with any privacy question (see Contact), and you always retain the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country.
11. Children
OwlSpend does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app is a general-audience finance tool and is not directed at children.
12. Changes to this policy
If we ever change how OwlSpend handles data — for example, if an optional cloud sync feature is added, or if a future version introduces advertising in the free tier — this policy will be updated before that change ships, and the effective date above will be revised. Material changes will also be highlighted in the app's update notes.
